I updated my system, and then it crashed

Well, I recently (on a diffrent machine) updated my Ubuntu 10.04's system (programs, applications, stuff like that). I restarted my computer, and now when i want to load ubuntu, i dont get anything, it'll start off like normal, then flash for a second and then restart the computer on me.

I installed ubuntu with the windows installer, making it a windows "program", allowing me to dual boot.

is it possible to fix this without re-installing ubuntu?

any help is appreciated
