Hi. I'm trying to install ubuntu 10.10 on an old IBM Netvista using a live usb stick. The installation appears to go fine, and when I restart the newly installed os boots and goes to the login screen without a hitch. When I log in, however, the little drum solo plays, and then I get stuck on a blank desktop background absolutely frozen. I already checked the iso file on the usb stick, and I can successfully boot from the usb stick on other machines but not this one. Thinking it's a hardware issue but not sure what else to try...thoughts?

UPDATE:
I just managed to get it running in safe mode, so it's not totally kaput.
