most of this is solved. But when installing digi-kam, you can loss Applications Places System Firefox Open Office & Shut down icons if you are not careful. I restored shut down, got on-line; did terminal report k78724@Kproductions:~$ uname -a Linux Kproductions 2.6.35-17-lowlatency #23-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Fri Aug 20 10:17:54 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux. and after panicking I verified my work files etc. are there.

though I am still in the woods Ubuntu Studio's F-spot allegedly does not do what digi-kam can. I am not sure if I uninstalled F-spot. When i clicked on F-spot, I suddenly had no Applications Places System Firefox Opera, Seamonkey, Open Office or Shut down icons.

:P

did an unnecessary sudo apt-get dump. But that will not restore Applications Places System. Seamonkey and Opera are not yet accessible.problem remains digi-kam and f-spot compatibility and to organize my photos and other images needed in productions.

Many thanks Jim. Will now rest comfortably knowing my data was not harmed and that basic programs will work.

Will look at picasa ... Many many thanks
