So, I decided I'd try out Linux this year. I use the windows installer, and everything appears to be going well, until suddenly, it stops with an error saying "no root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu."

I figure I'd think of some way out of this, but no matter how hard I look or try I cannot find a command line anywhere or any menu at all, as this happened the first time it booted up. I was forced to shut off my PC and boot up windows again, and Windows responded extremely slowly and firefox crashed about 7 times for no reason.
