Hi all, sorry for the wall of text :P

My girlfriend has recently been having problems with said laptop, now it has got to the point of not booting at all (current OS is vista). Previously it would get as far as saying something about logonui.exe being corrupt but now I get a flash of a blue screen and it shuts down. The only thing that works is the "Vaio Recovery Utility". I need to back up her college work but it says it can't find the internal hard disk to copy from using the utility :S
I tryed to install ubuntu-netbook to see if I could access and rescue her files, however I can't get it to boot from the CD. I'm 100% sure that I burnt the disc correctly as I can boot my dell laptop and desktop from it. I've also changed the boot options in the BIOS so that the disk drive is the first option. When the laptop boots I can hear the disk being read but nothing shows on the screen, after a minute or so it boots to the recovery utility*sigh*

Any help would be very much appreciated :)

Thanks
