I installed ubuntu with the windows installer. while installing in windows, multiple error messages showed up, but installation still proceeded. it rebooted, and ubuntu finished installation. on the next reboot, when i chose ubuntu from the windows boot manager, it loaded grub. however, there was no option for booting ubuntu in grub, and you are forced to go back to the windows boot manager. could someone please tell me what is going on and how to fix it. if it cannot be fixed, how can i reinstall it?

Hi and welcome to the forums :-)

What error messages did you see?

Did it tell you the installation was complete and to restart the computer?

For Wubi issues and solutions, see here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1639198

If you can boot Windows normally, then see problem #2, and depending on which version you have for Ubuntu either solution #1 or #2 should do the trick.

Apply the Permanent Fix once booted back into Ubuntu.

If you are unsure and want us to take a closer look, post any error logs you can find (usually at the root of the C drive) and post the results of the boot info script.

Let me know if you need help with anything.
