View Full Version : [ubuntu] LiveCDs Not Working

What is the problem with the LiveCds.

I've tried 10.10 and 10.04LTS in 32 and 64 bit versions but none of them boot.

All BIOS settings are correct and the machine is fairly new. The CDs are all burnt correctly.

I'm having to run 8.10 which wouldn't bother me except that none of the repositories work (are they un-supported now?)

Any help would be much appreciated?

Yes, 8.10 had reached it's EOL quite some time ago, but both 10.04 and 10.10 work well here.
You should probably post your hardware specs for a start.
Edit: Check out the link for 8.10 repositories.

Specs:

AMD Phenom II X3 720 (stock speed)
4GB PC8500
WD 640 GB
Radeon HD 2400 PRO (using HDMI)
Gygabyte Mobo with nVidia GeForce 8200 Chipset
RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI

Do you need more details on the specs?

I was previously running Xubuntu 9.04 without any problems!

Hm ..., the specs are alright, in fact, more then enough. What happens exactly when you try booting from those live cds?

I get to purple screen with two symbols at the bottom. If I leave it the screen goes blank however if I press TAB I get to the normal boot menu.

If I select Try First > goes to Ubuntu symbol on puruple background then blank screen.

If I select Install > goes to Ubuntu symbol on puruple background then blank screen.

Tried with the various selectable boot line parameter/options but to no avail. Got 10.04 to install with noacpi but post install it dropped to a command line with various std errs and io errors.

I've managed to get 9.10 to install but that wasn't straight forward either - noapic on that one.

How long before 9.10 becomes un-supported?

Not sure if I dare try a distribution upgrade to 10.04LTS while I have a working system!

I'd not risk upgrading in your situation. Karmic should have support till the end of April, and by then, you might figure something out.
