I had issue during installation 10.04.01, witch i solve like this:

1. Press F6 to open the other menu options.
2. This opens this new menu ... it's useless to us. So now close it!
3. We did this so that the command options show up near the bottom of the screen. Press tab to access these options.
4. Press space ones (to make some space) and enter the following:-xforcevesa
5. Press enter to boot

PS specification:
graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
monitor LG W2242 (Analog) type 22 "LCD (WSXGA +)
resolution 1680 x 1050.

How to solve the problem?

Note:
Beginner in the Linux world, and my English is very bad.

i just had the same problem as you described, it turned out to be a loose monitor cable. if that's not the case for you, possibly the video card is dying.
