I have 8.10 ubuntu on my old PIII machine. After Installing educational games and played it, the computer was hank. So, I tru to hard reset by unplug power.

After I reboot it, it is back to normal ubuntu screen with an exception that no menu bar is exist.

I've read other thread regarding no menu issue, but I cannot resolve the problem. I've set automatic login before the problem exist, thus I cannot activate X screen from there. I've tried Alt-F2, nothing happened. I can go to Ctrl-Alt-F1, and login there. But when I run the "gnome-panel" command, there is an error message:

"gnome-panel: error while loading shared libraries: libgailutil.so.18: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I think this is the problem. Can someone help me? Thank you.
