I haven't posted in a long while. Just recently started searching out new themes again and have before my eyes a combination I really like.

Emerald - Dots
GTK - Victory (Strikes Again)
Icons - Simple
Font - Droid Sans

Nothing too special but I got a bit inspired by Unity and in order to get myself ready for it's changes, I removed the bottom panel, and added docky to the left (changed the option to make it hide when a window overlaps it).

The third screen shot is of Windows 7 of course, which I do use from time to time (every other month I boot it up to keep FireFox and antivirus up-to-date).

Oh BTW there is still 1 hours to go in 2010 here. :)

My favourite colour is green, so I (nearly) always use a green theme (like "Aquadreams" or "Bamboo-Zen", possibly customised a little) and "green" wallpapers that I find online.

I also like my desktop clean - no icons or shortcuts.

Earlier this evening I switched to this one:

And after that tirade about how awn is better than docky last month, I now use docky. Plus a panel for good measure. All sacrificed in the name of boredom.

Some other changes as well. Theme is that new one by SkiesOfAzel (atolm), icons are awoken, wallpaper is from somewhere I don't recall but if anyone wants it I will upload it. Docky theme is HUD.

All in all a desktop to fit how I feel: Desaturated.

GTK skin is LGD's LaGaDesk N-12 (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/LaGaDesk-N12-GTK+Collection?content=136036) with an added "granulated" pixmap texture.

Icon theme is LuxieRayKu's QDark Sleek (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/QDark+Sleek?content=118463).

Backdrop is werol's immobilization (http://werol.deviantart.com/art/immobilization-24212877?q=&qo=) (cropped).

And no, that's not a giant undo button on my AWN dock. = ) It's a button to rotate the screen and trackpad for reading.

The coolest thing about LaGaDesk N-12 is the menus, which are sleek and black and set to transparency through Compiz, a perfect match for the dock, but I of course can't take a screenshot with them open. = (

I tried, tried really hard, to show some solidarity and put the dock on the left, Unity-style, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. It doesn't make sense to me yet over there. :shrug

It's my nm-applet, for whatever reason it used to do that on login. A killall gnome-panel would fix it, but ever since I disabled it from startup (it somehow added itself back it) it's been working fine.

I wouldn't mind, but the icon is rather nice :)

Yes mate, still cwm. I do love my border pixels! That wallpaper of yours is fantastic. I know i could do something similar with xsetroot, but i would like to see yours. ttyload is pretty nifty, isn't it? I was thinking of porting it to openbsd since a couple of weeks or so. Gotta get to hacking.I thought I saw ttyload in some of your older scrots... or were those your Linux (Sorcerer) setups? Yeah, it's an awesome app, but I have a tiny problem with it and am wondering if you could help. It only seems to display single digit hours in it's time on top, example: if my current time is 12:34, it only displays 2:34 ..... any clue?

Regarding the wallpaper, only made that one in netbook size (had to make it in exact size to get the texture size just right) ... Uploaded 2 versions for you, one slightly lighter than the other. Just ask if you want a bigger size or different colour.

Every time I see your shots I think I would really love an interface like that. Then I go about trying to make something like it and realize I can't live without my bloat. :sad:tbh, I need some level of 'bloat' on my desktop's setups as well. I can afford a minimal setup on the netbook though, since I don't run as many apps and would rather have the speed offered by CLI equivalents (with the exception of Firefox, Midori and Gcolor2, of course).

might as well post something: just a new wallpaper.

No way - "functional minimalism" is always in style.

Just putting the finishing touches on the screenshot I posted at the end of last month. Since most of you missed that one, I'm posting this mostly out of ego...

http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/8220/screenshot0103201103375.png (http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/8220/screenshot0103201103375.png)

The GTK theme I named "Clarity" is based on Shiki-dark. The dock is Talika running on an Xfce panel. The cursor theme is Chameleon Anthracite which matches perfectly, but that's just for the screenshot as it's too dark to use with this theme. I'm really using Chameleon Pearl. The wall source is fiftyfootshadows.com. Other info is in the terminal.

Indeed. For all my school years, us Aussies were practically unbeatable. What an era '87 to the early 2000s was. It must be said, however, that the English have played brilliantly on all fronts this series. In a way, I think it could be really great for the game overall... its nice to see a bit of competition going again - it started to get a little boring seeing thrashing after thrashing delivered by the Aussies ;)

Thanks. Looks like a cool project. Right now I have aliases to copy conkyfiles to the home folder to change the text color for dark and light wallpapers. This looks way easier.

Hey, this is great. I haven't seen the movie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfume:_The_Story_of_a_Murderer_%28film%29) yet, but the book (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfume_%28novel%29) is one of my faves. My edition has this for the cover image, but seems that not all of them do.

Why is your keyboard layout indicator looking like that? Mine is a small keyboard icon with the name of the layout by it.

Does it depend on the icon theme? If yes, what are you using?

New desktop setup. Decided to use a refined version of Ambiance and go back to using the traditional GNOME Panel due to WingPanel being early in its infancy.

GTK: Ambiance Maverick Dark (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Ambiance+Maverick+(Beta)+Dark?content=133901)
Wallpaper: Something from wins.failblog.org
Emerald: Ambiance Borderless, modified by me
Monitor: Conky
Dock: AWN with DockBarX
Menu: Cardapio
Finder thing: Synapse

Also, I think I lost the game... literally.

EDIT: Ended up having to go back to Hope because my computer apparently doesn't like Ambiance Maverick that much #-o

This is my desktop. It's a netbook with a 1024x768 external monitor. The panel at the top is the elementary wingpanel.
I have conky running, with two python scripts I've made (I am trying to learn python:D). The first one is to display a random quote from a text file, with newlines added, so each line is never longer than 95 characters. The other one is part of a task manager I've been working on.

Time for new, non-Chrismukkuh settings for my Mint 9 KDE desk. I recently changed from using a rotation of wallpaper images but I wanted to share one last shot from it, using a custom wallpaper I made.

Hi all,

My conky's: mpd (obvious), mini (topleft corner), mini2 (topright corner), system (bottom), weather (obvious) and in the top middle: episodes checks available links for series/programs I watch.

Taskbar is tint2, launchers by adeskbar, Faenza icons, slateville theme, Openbox for a lightweight environment.

All config files available upon request.

I'm working on filling the bottom a bit more (with a bit more fancy stuff this time) but I'm having problems (LINK) (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1663033) any python master willing to take a look? thanks in advance.

What is the clock app. you're using?

It's dclock mate. You can define the properties of dclock, say, foreground color, background color, dimension, military time etc., in your .Xdefaults. Then simply execute

dclock -date "%d %w %m %Y"

to get it look like mine. d,w,m,Y should be obvious to interpret.

By the way, have you tried using one of those alternate character patches with terminus? I am particularly fond of the character patch for the letter 'a'.

Will reply you in our other channels tomorrow. Thanks again.Cheers mate.

What alternative character patch are you referring to, exactly? The Terminus I'm using on that setup is just the package from the Debian repos, so I'm not sure how I go about patching it.

Only experience I've had with alternative variants for (non .ttf) Terminus was when I used to employ the Terminus-Ja set, where I followed this page: http://mix-mplus-ipa.sourceforge.jp/terminus-ja/terminus-font-4.30-README.txt (scroll down to '1.3 Variants') to patch it.

Is it similar to that, or am I just talking-**** here and all that's required is some change to the iso code? :|

Apologies for the general noob-ness >_<

Edit: Jeez, this forum censors everything!! What if someone asked a totally innocent question like "What is the opposite of hen?" or "What is another word for rooster?" .... >_>

*snip

No problems man. I actually meant this one. Have a look at the two shots. See the difference in the character 'a'?

Default Terminus

Terminus with alternate character for the letter 'a'

http://ompldr.org/vNnh5eA

There are patches for quite a few characters. If you download Terminus source, there will be a directory called alt inside. It has all the diffs for these alternate characters that can be patched. It's no big deal. Just that i am not fond of the default 'a'. That's all. Some complain that it is too close to o. I never felt like that though.

@Dai-chan
Oh cool ... guess it's the same as with the old Terminus-Ja, only difference being the /alt folder contains quite a few different .diff files. O_O

I never did like the default 'a', so much thanks for this. Now I go find out what the other .diffs do, and then patch all my setups!! ... and no, it looks nothing like 'o' (those blokes must be blind!!)

While this isn't mine, I'd like some expert opinion on what went into creating this particular screenshot. Stuff like icon set, panels, etc.

The dock is glx dock and effect on top is created by right clicking the Gnome panel > properties > General to increase the width of the panel .

From panel properties (Background Tab) select solid color to make the panel match the wall paper and then drag the icons you want on the panel

The system data on the right looks like the info panel screenlet from Gnome look .org , but it may be conky

The text in the top center is the terminal running from the top panel. To change terminal color Terminal > Edit > Profile Preferences, you will find a number of settings there.

The menu (Top Left) is the main menu found on the add to panel menu found by right clicking the top or bottom panel.

Icons & wallpaper unknown.

Not as pretty as some of these other desktops, but I saw the thread and snapped a screenshot of what I was working on at the moment. Just resized gedit so you could see the wallpaper. See the attachment.

The window manager is ScrotWm (http://www.peereboom.us/scrotwm/html/scrotwm.html); the system info. is conky - the Arch Linux wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Scrotwm#Conky) has a good guide to set up conky in ScrotWm. I don't know what the clock app. is.

Trying out something new - Awesome window manager, Opera, Debian testing.
