I have a new motherboard (Foxcconn H55 Intel Chipset) which has 6 SATA hard drive connectors but no IDE. It has onboard graphics.
I have managed to install Ubuntu 10.10 from a USB to the SATA drive.
When I boot up though it boots only to the command line.
If I type 'startx' I am told it should boot to the GUI, but the screen goes black and hangs after doing this.
I can however run Ubuntu from a USB stick with no problems at all.
As it runs off the USB stick the graphic card seems to be working.
Is this problem something to do with SATA drives and Linux?
I have the installation CD with the motherboard but it only ships with Windows drivers.
HELP!

Could be a botched up install. Did you have any error messages during the installation?
