This is just nuts:
http://www.betanews.com/joewilcox/article/What-does-Paul-Allen-need-to-win-his-patent-lawsuit-against-Apple-Facebook-Texas/1293646311

This has all the signs of a patent troll just looking to make a quick buck, but what's in it for Paul Allen??? He's already stinkin' rich. The two main things that really put a bad taste in my mouth is he's filing the lawsuit in Texas like most patent trolls do, and he's not targeting Microsoft since he has a stake in the company.

And heck some of the technologies he's going after, like AOL Instant Messenger, have been out for a decade or more and he's just now thumbing through his patents to see which one could be used against them?

I haven't had respect for Paul Allen since he ruined ZDTV/TechTV, but this takes the cake.

Man so much to do with microsoft is just plain evil. Power absolutely corrupts or what.

samalex,

Edit: I re-read the article. He didn't file it in east Texas. That was a suggestion for how to file one by the person that wrote the article. The person that wrote the article was just noting that Allen would have better luck if he did file it there. Most of that article was east Texas bashing.

This is just more reason for getting rid of software patents.

Actually, maybe we'd benefit in the long term from Paul Allen and others bringing computer technology to a screeching halt. That would be a message nobody could ignore.
