My software-Center not opening

I cant seem to open my software centre. I can even install .deb applications. I tried sudo software-centre and this is what i got

You are in Nigeria? I believe your locale should look more like this....


en_NG.UTF-8

....but, i am just trying to confirm this and how to set it for you.

BTW: Is this a new install or an upgrade? Has this just started happening?

I just got the new 10.10 cd from a friend and installed it some days ago. I have been having this problem and i just finished doing a full update.

No problem. Could you open a terminal and type


locale -a

The -a switch will display all the locales available on your system, not just the one you are using. Post the results back.

en_NG.utf8Good. Lets try changing your locale to en_NG.utf8.

You need to edit the file /etc/default/locale.

Open a terminal and type


sudo nano /etc/default/localeenter your password. You will not see it echoed to the screen as you type it. This is normal and for security.

change LANG="en_NG" to LANG="en_NG.UTF-8".

Press ctrl + o (small O) to save the file and ctrl x to exit.

I am not sure if a reboot is required but do it anyway and try the software centre again.

I am having this same problem. I added linux mint repositories and installed mint-menu because i liked it. Ever since I have not been able to open Ubuntu Software Center.
