Could not start ksmserver check your installation

Hi,

I upgraded the computer of my son from kubuntu 9.10 (I think) to Kubuntu 10 and, once the system rebooted I got the following error message:


Could not start ksmserver, check your installation

When I press "OK" I am back at the login screen.

Two questions:

1)
What is a ksmserver and:

2)
How the hell do i solve this problem?
