I'm trying to set up a Dual boot of windows 7 for gaming and ubuntu for daily use. I would like to do this on multiple didks, as I have 3, a 1Tb for my files, and then an 80 Gb that falls first, and a 120 that falls second. Ideally I would like to install ubuntu on the 80 and windows on the 120, but I cant get it going either way. either windows ignores my Ubuntu install, or ubuntu deletes the windows boot partition. What do I do?

So from a booted live Ubuntu cd or thumbdrive lets see the bootscript read out; in my signature just click on it and follow the instructions. Come back to the thread and click on the # in the reply panel this makes code tags paste all the text in between.

Put the sdb hard drive as first to be read in the bios then sda. Boot a live 10.10 cd and run these two commands.

sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt
then
sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/ /dev/sdb

reboot to the sdb hopefully to the grub menu choose the Ubuntu install and once inside open a terminal and run
sudo update-grub.

You have the MS bootloader in the sda that's good but no bootloader in the HD with Ubuntu sdb.

I was gonna switch them in the bios but it only shows me one of the drives. Might have to physicallt switch drives?

So is this computer 5 years or so or older.

Are the sdb, and sdc usb externals?

The easiest fix would be to just shrink W7 a bit and get Ubuntu on the sda and then you could boot both W7 and Ubuntu with Grub2.

Its actually pretty new. I bought the mobo like 4 months ago. Amd athlon x2+ at 2.8 ghz
I think ill just put them both on the same drive like you said... seems easier

Plus, I just rememberd that Ubuntu told me before that sda is showing signs of failure. just pull that and use sdb for oses

If sda is actually failing the sdb drive is a little bigger as well.
