Hi, I'm totally new to ubuntu and I want to install ubuntu in another partition. I have C: which contains Windows 7 Ultimate and i have D: for files. D: was pre-configured with my desktop. I wonder how to install Ubuntu in D: . Please help me to avoid errors during my installation thanks.

Note that if you format the D partition and install Ubuntu there, then all data on D will be lost. If this is what you want to do, then be sure to backup all data on the D partition before installing Ubuntu.
Alternatively, if you have at least 10GB free space on D you can shrink the D partition with Windows7 partitioning tool, then install Ubuntu onto the newly created free space.
For very detailed tutorials on dual booting Windows7 + Ubuntu, see Ubuntu forum member Herman's excellent site:

Under step 5 Install Ubuntu he has several guides for dual booting Ubuntu and Windows7.
You would probably want to use: Graphical Installation 'B'. This is the most simple method.
Write back if you need more help.

And welcome to the Ubuntu forums!
