hi, I have a 10.10 installation of Ubuntu in my Dell laptop. To I installed arounf 177 mb of updates using the 'update manager' in Ubuntu. After that, when I rebooted my system, I have 2 more Ubuntu items in the grub menu. When I select the first one, that is, the one which came after the applying the updats, it goes to a command prompt style. It asks for my username and password. When I enter those in the command prompt or terminal, it logs in, but still it stays in the terminal. It is not loading the gui or desktop.

If I select the other one, what happens is that, my desktop loads, but everything has lost its alignment, the graphics are dis-ambled....etc.

How to cancel all the updates installed, and how to restore my system.?

Also, there is an error after installing ATI driver:- failed to get i915 symbols, graphics turbo disabled.

please help with these errors.
