View Full Version : [ubuntu] installing ubuntu and window 7 on EXTERNAL USB HARD DRIVE, dual boot,Ubntu instld 1st

hi, i have installed ubuntu 10.04 on my external usb hard drive. now i want to install windows 7 in same hard drive. i havent tried it cuz i dont want to lose ubuntu boot option. I also dont know if windows 7 can be installed and booted from external hard drive.

i googled it alot , i found threads about dual booting windows 7 and ubuntu on pc's hard disk but i dont know if it works on usb hard drive also.

I don't know, but I have suggestion.:p

Use Clonezilla to save the image of your current HD.
Install Win 7 on the HD, then install Ubuntu.
Install Puppy on an external USB drive.
Boot Puppy and dump the image of the HD to another USB Thumb drive or SD card using Pdump.
Restore the original image of the HD that's been saved using Clonezilla.
If this works please come back and tell us about it.:p
