I know it used to be possible (with a softmod) and I'm pretty sure it still is.

Why would you want linux on an xox 360?

I guess for the same reason I tried it out on the wii

I couldn't find anything new. These posts are from 2007

I suppose there are ways but that's really not what the hardware is intended to be used as. I suggest you just buy some games for it.

If you don't want to play games on it, I'll take it off your hands. Mine just broke so I need a new one heh.

BLOPS and Reach are both fun games that are out there now.

Why would you want linux on an xox 360?

I was thinking the same thing.
Can you even operate it with a mouse and a keyboard?

I am not even sure it works, he is going to bring me all the cables and plugs

I figured I would take it apart and mess around with it and see what I can do with it.

not too interested in playing games on it...I may just give it to my brother-in-law

Play some games on it. If you want to put Ubuntu on something, how about a PC/laptop/netbook.

I did this a couple of years back (I don't know if it will help or not):

Fun fact: The ports on the Classic Xbox and 360 are USB in disguise!

Installing linux on an xbox is pointless and a waste of a pefectly good game console.

You keep the standard firmware, and it can still play games.

So what's the problem? All these negative nancies... :D I say go for it! I think it would be a sweet dual boot machine to have.

I would use it for XBMC ('http://xbmc.org/'), but that's just my opinion.

EDIT: it doesn't work easily with 360's, unfortunately :(

You should have had a bit of fun with it at first! Dual-booting it sounded like a great idea. xD Who knows what you could have done... o_o

I think the OP did the right thing... playing X-Box 360 games is the thing the X-box 360 does best...

Duct the heat from the fan to a metal plate - and you've got yourself a frying pan!

My brother-in-law already has a new xBox 360 he got for his birthday, so I gave it to a friend who wants to use it to run netflix off of...it's not taking up space at my place anymore :p
