Ubuntu fails to load after upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 on Wubi install

I had a 10.04 Wubi install on my Win7 notebook. I selected the option to upgrade to 10.10 from update manager. It downloaded all the updates, but reported that due to some problem, only a partial upgrade will be possible. I agreed. And now, when I select Ubuntu from the startup OS list, it just shows a blank screen and restarts within 3-5 seconds. What do I do??

From your description you have problem #2 and require solution #2, but please read all the information first.

When done, apply the Permanent Fix to prevent this in the future.

Thanks. Copying wubildr didn't work:-k. Will do the Live CD thing and come back.

In most cases, if copying the wubildr file over does not work, editing grub.cfg from the LiveCD should do the trick.
