Anyone planning on watching the Lunar Eclipse tonight? Here's a site with more info:
http://www.nasa.gov/connect/chat/moon_gift.html

From what I read it's the first Lunar Eclipse to fall on Winter Solstice since 1638. Pretty neat stuff.

You are really going to be up a 1AM to 3AM in Waco, Texas to see it?

I will definitely be up and ready Samalex. :)

Glad you started this thread,
I just came to do the same thing,
but figured a search would be good first.

Good call mate. :)

This is indeed a RARE eclipse!
No big deal?

There has not been a Lunar Eclipse like this on the same date as the winter solstice in 456 years!

and it won't happen again until 2094!

It is a big deal! lol

If you are on the east coast..
It will begin at 1:33 am, and totality will begin about 2:41 am.

West coast The eclipse will begin at 10:33pm.

Here's a live webcast , http://www.ccssc.org/webcast.html
if it will be too cold out for you, (and you are awake). lol

I will have a scope out in the backyard on it,
and if the sky is clear enough for some photos,
ill take some and share here. lol

Clear Skies!
Happy Solstice <3

Not staying up till Midnight to see it, and I doubt I'd be able to see if due to the clouds and the rain.

Oh well.

I have an exam early in the morning, so I can't stay up too late to see it. Maybe I'll catch the beginning of it. My sister wants to stay up to watch it though :D

I've all of a sudden been overwhelmed by fog. I can still see a sliver of the mooon left and I have another twenty minutes until Umbra.

Strange but cool. I hope this fog doesn't get any denser and I lose visual on the red/orange.

I busted out the binoculars I have that take photos and video but their not working properly. I suppose all that Florida humidity got to them. I haven't used them in years.

When I lived in Florida, I could walk out in my back yard and watch the Space Shuttle with the naked eye. So much for those days.

The eclipse, a rare event, will begin 10.58 am and after passing through various phases, will end at 4.36 pm.
The eclipse will be visible in the region covering Europe, West Africa, America, the Pacific Ocean, eastern Australia, the Philippines and eastern and northern Asia.

Far too cloudy to see it last night, but the sky was a shade of pale red as a result of the lack of moonlight mixing with the industrial plants around.
