View Full Version : [ubuntu] how to make a bootable disc

I am sooo confused....I have downloaded imgburn, then downloaded ubundo from hippo site. somehow sonic was also downloaded. I did not know what choice to make when it came time to burn a cd....now I can't get back to those choices....I am trying to make a bootable cd to install in a sonic laptop without an operating system. If by downloading ubuntu on my c/drive have I changed my os in any way...I have a hp compaq desktop computer using windows os..I am on a network with my husband...I hope I have given enough info for someone to be able to help me, I am way over my head....please step by step instructions....thanks so much.....

Rubi1200 have mentioned nearly everything you need.

I would just want to add that there are simplified instructions on the Ubuntu download page as well ;-) See option # 2 there "Burn your CD or create a USB drive'. They are nice, easy and step-by-step instructions.

And you can also boot using a flash drive and install Ubuntu (if Bios supports). Things you need is an Ubuntu image, a flash drive and a flash drive burning utility. There are many out there but I would recommend Unetbootin. It is self explanatory once you download and run it.

I only just now found these answers....I have to learn how to use this forum and find the answers when someone responds....I' so sorry I have been late in getting back to you...I will try what you have suggested and let you know how it turns out...thanks so much.....
