A while back I wrote a mock post suggesting that Shuttleworth was announcing an Ubupad (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1436199).

Lo & behold, the dual screen KNO will ship this month (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/12/dual-screen-ubuntu-based-tablet-kno-to-ship-this-month/). Looks cool.

Remember the ads of a students' pad based on Ubuntu that was about to hit the market? Well, I almost forgot too, but happened to stumble on an old ad and decided to check whether the pad has actually appeared.

It turns out the Kno site (http://www.kno.com) doesn't even mention Ubuntu tablets. Apparently, they never materialized at all. And now Kno seems all focused on the iPads.

Not that I liked the idea of those Kno Ubuntu tablets that much in the first place, but still, it's a lesson. Never, ever, believe any linux-related ads unless you see the actual product. Because too frequently the companies go back on their promises.

It's not a promise, and things can go wrong. Never be too attached to any product concept, ever, until it ships. In this case, Kno realized that they weren't going to be able to push a whole platform and decided to focus on software and content for a preexisting platform that has a lot of good press.
