I was poking around Windows and noticed lots of interesting settings for my touchpad, most of which don't seem to work in linux.

So anyway, amongst these I discovered I can turn the touchpad on and off by tapping the little light in the top left corner.

After booting back into linux the touchpad no longer works for anything.
I have gone into touchpad settings and made sure it's enabled (on both KDE and Gnome) even installed a couple of extra touchpad configuration tools but I am still left with a dead touchpad.

Went back into windows and it is fully working there still.
