View Full Version : An IDE SSD is it even worth the money?

I was checking a couple of them out at newegg, but the speeds of the drives don't seem to even be close to the speeds of their SATA counterparts.... Is an IDE SSD really that much faster than a 7200 RPM HD?

I didn't even know they had IDE SSDs. The interface would probably bog them down.

EDIT: The ones I saw had 44-pin connectors (mini-IDE).

SD has advantage in both total speed and fast access. IDE SSD would still benefit from low latency, although it may not be worth the money.

I think it would depend on what you were doing with it.

Lots of small file read/writes or situations where latency is all important (running software samplers for instance) then yeah go SSD, but for large files the normal drive may even be faster.

Horses for courses.

Kind regards

It would be worth it if was going into something would only take an IDE and needed take a lot of abuse.
