In Linux Journal recently an editor reply to a letter contained this comment "Your 64-bit frustration is one many folks share, myself included. In fact on my desktop machine, I usually install a 32-bit Linux and use a PAE Kernel to use all my system memory"

I also have a dual core 64-bit AMD that is not being used to it's best because so many of the Linux programs and pages on the net cannot run on 64-bit.

However the Ed's reply did not contain any info about how the PAE kernel is found and installed.

Can anyone enlighten me on whether this is a viable option to use the whole memory and if so How do I do it?

I am on Ubuntu 10.04 with a second system of PCLinuxOS about to be trialled, and I also have a XP Virtual box setup that I use rarely.
