Hey,

I use Transmission to download torrents off the internet. The problem is whenever I start the download, I cannot access the internet via my web browsers, Chrome AND Firefox.

Altho, I can use Pidgin or Empathy to communicate. Why should I do ?

I am assuming it is causing some sorta congestion .. I tried giving the downloads "low" priority, applying temporary speed limits but it doesn't help.

What could be the problem ?

Try lowering the speed limits on both downloads and uploads (not low priority, priority is only relative to other torrents, not other programs). If I am uploading at full speed, the rest of my connection comes to a crawl.

Here is a good HowTo on managing torrent connections (not just Transmission).

What's your maximum download/upload speeds?
mines 850k/52k down/up, I set my torrent upload speeds at around 32kps that works fine.

I have a 1.5Mbps download link and 260 Kbps upload speed. I limit my upload speed to around 10 Kbps .. Lets see if limiting the bandwidth works .. =/

I think I read somewhere that your torrent upload speed should be 50% of your maximum upload speed.
