Hi

trying to upgrade Feisty, but getting this error after it reports 41 of 62 files downloaded...
http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz: 404 Not Found

I ave changed the server to one of the 'mirrors' & to 'main server', but I get the same error

Any thoughts ?

That release has reached its "end of life", and is no longer supported. I know that some packages are available after such event occurs, but it seems I recall they "go away" after a period of time. It would be my recommendation that you consider upgrading to 10.10, the current release, or 10,04, the current LTS release.

Back up and do a fresh install. You can't even upgrade since 7.10 is EOL.

Thanks

Since the CD drive in this old latop is temperamental, it wont read any of my Ubuntu install DVD's except ( strangely ) Fiesty.

It wont boot via USB.

Is there any other method of installation that I can perform using file downloads ?

cheers

You could try the mini.iso (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD) and then install Gnome or KDE or whatever Desktop you like.

Check out Ubuntu's Installation (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation) for other ways to install.
