Lord, this is repeat of the 2000 failed attempt at installing redhat. To conclude it wasn't possible, after two weeks of reading and trying things.

Firstly, there is huge honking flaw in Grub2. I cannot install a standard Ubu on and external drive, since grub will fail to load, locking me out of windows, when I take the external drive to work. Bios too old to load grub on external drive. Not enough room on drive a to trying a real Ubuntu partition, Grub4dos has no support and no idea how to dump grub2 and use that. A separate partition for grub2 is not documented well enough to try.

Then, I cannot get wubi installed since when I update, I am getting a freeze at ' Unpacking python-minimal replacement' I drop to recovery console and try and ruins my installation.

How do I get past this python unpacking freeze?
