I use ubuntu maverick and i installed kde desktop yesterday using terminal

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

Everything went on okay and i was also able to start kde and use it perfectly fine. the next time I switched it on the splash screen appeared and after that gdm login appeared again.
What could be the problem and how do I solve it.

Thanks!

So what actually is the problem?

When you install kubuntu-desktop there is a choice of which window manager to use, either gdm or kdm (kwin? I'm not sure about that). You can use only one or the other according to your taste. You can not use kdm for kubuntu and gdm for gnome, but will have to accept one of the two for both of your desktops.

I chose gdm as my login manager and everything worked fine (I was able to use KDE).
But now all of a sudden I am unable to use KDE. I choose KDE at gdm login screen in the session field and the KDE splash screen appears. Immediately after the spash KDe desktop does not load but instead the gdm login screen appears again.
That's the problem.
Thanks

In that case, I've no idea. Sorry.

Thanks for the help. Ill just try to reinstall KDE and see if it works. If not I'll just continue using gnome. Thanks
