Upgraded to 10.10 after reboot 10.04 loads

Very strange.

I upgraded 10.04 to 10.10. At the tail end of the install, the display locked. After an hour or 2 I rebooted the box.

Came up to a command prompt (instead of starting the GUI automatically), started the GUI, everything seemed fine.

Ran 10.10 fine for 2 days. Installed apps, got my SVN environment set, started doing development work.

I got a lockup, had to reboot....
Came back as 10.04.

I have only one hard drive (/dev/sda), 4 partitions.

My new files all seem to be there, are accessible and valid. Just the OS version has reverted??!?!?!?

How do I get back to 10.10 (without doing another update, install cycle)? Surely it's there somewhere...

Is it a GRUB issue?
Looking at the grub list, only Ubuntu 10.04 is an option.
Looking at the /boot directory, there are several initrd.img files that are newer than the ones associated with 10.04 in the grub/menu.lst file (i.e., Ubuntu 10.04.1 = initrd...2.6.27, whereas there are other files in the boot directory like 2.6.26, 2.6.31 and 2.6.32)

Instead of guessing here, post the output of bootinfoscript as per instructions here. It might tell us about any on-going problems with Grub and also, which version of Ubuntu is there.

Wow, thanks for the amazingly fast response...
as you can see below, there isn't even a 2.6.35 kernel on t he system, and yet promise you I was running 10.10 for 2 days, rebooted, and viola, gone.

Not strange enough. It is just showing that you've got Ubuntu Lucid 10.04.1 and not the Maverick 10.10.

And Grub Legacy is there giving a hint that it is an upgrade from a previous version. Might sound dumb but are you just sure you were running 10.04 previously and upgraded to 10.10? Or are you missing something that it was 9.10 and upgraded to 10.04?

Or might be you just got regual updates for 10.04 and got upgraded to 10.04.1?

Reasonable questions, but I absolutely positively got to 10.10. I even installed some software that required 10.10.

I guess I'll go back through the process. Nuts that's strange.
