Who can guess when it will happen? Shouldn't lights and buzzers go off for who ever gets the magic number? Should there be some kind of a prize?

If half the current members each made one post we would be there now.

Whaddya' want to bet the 1,000,000 post isn't someone showing off some cool Linux knowledge, but rather saying 'LOL' or something like that :)

Doesnt matter what is the content of the post, the important is that it is the million one.

We should have some sort of raffle prize in celebration of the millionth post. Mabye a PC preloaded with Ubuntu for first place and a couple of books like Linux in a Nutshell and OpenOffice.org for Dummies for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

And where do you propose we get the money to pay for this?

... do not say Mark Shuttleworth

But it's just a... er... millionth post... that's cool to show how active this community is, but not merit of a single individual. A notice on the front page would be great to show how supportive ubuntuforums can be.

Post a notice on the home page with the announcement of the 1 000 000 post..

We could estimate when the counter will tick over and organise Ubuntu user parties around the world.. just like the GNOME/Firefox/etc. people do with new releases.

my casual guessimate would be that we hit a cool million posts in 2 weeks. So Saturday 6. May would be a good day to take your friends in hand and invade some bars with Ubuntu CDs and good moods.

Sadly on that day I'll be marching for Cannabis legalisation, so you'll probably have to party without me.

The reverse counter idea is neat! :)

And how can we tell who's the one that posted the one milionth post? They'll have a magical golden ticket? That'd make it nice and easy.

I expect the database that drives this thing would tell us with great ease..

One millionth post and One Hundred thousandth member coming soon. :D
So, that's an average of around 10 posts per member. Looking at the post counts of the regulars, I reckon there must be an awful lot who don't stick around. Is there a way of telling how many of those 100,000 have logged on in the past month or so?

And how lucky would you need to be to be the 100,000th to register and make the millionth post just to say Hi?

I say they should rig the board so whoever posts the millionth post gets like fullscreen red flashy thingy on their screen and big horn goes out of their speakers.. then they can post how much they were suprised.. yeah..
