View Full Version : [ubuntu] start up problem with ubuntu 10.10

i installed ubuntu 10.10 yesterday and today when i am trying to open it its giving an error.
the error are as follow
gave up waiting for root device
-boot args
-missing modules
ALERT! /dev/sdb1 does not exist

looking at the errors i feel that the problems with hard disk but i can boot to windows and also once or twice ubuntu had successfully booted today

i think that your ubuntu partition has not been made bootable while formatting it.

Hi and welcome to the forums :)

Did you install Ubuntu to the hard-drive on its own partition or is this a Wubi install inside Windows?

no i did it inside windows using wubi

so do i need to uninstall ubuntu and then reinstall it......can i direct install in c drive without formatting or making no harm to windows..........i have 10.04 and i have heard its better than 10.10 should i go for 10.04?????????
