I am here to propose a thought experiment.

What would happen if you installed everything from the default repositories?

I mean everything. Games, Libraries, System tools, Desktop Environments, Fonts, Office tools, everything.

simulate it, and see
(--simulate means your system does not change at all, it just does a dry-run)

apt-get --simulate install '.*'

You'd get a lot of conflicts.

nice question.
pondering on it: you would first of all need a lot, a whole lot of disk space and bandwith.
then you would end up with several desktops like gnome, kde, xfce but also with ubuntu studio, edubuntu and what not.

in a nut shell: the repositories contain several desktop environments, drivers and applications for different use or needs.
so a lot would not install at all or just consume space.

nicely instable it would become for sure.
suggestion: just try ms titanic as is with you pc and you get a pretty good idea what would happen. Q.E.D.
