Hi there, what I'm trying to do now is install Ubuntu on my PS3. But both variants of Ubuntu I've tried so far have failed.
I've tried to install 9.10 Alternate ppc+ps3 version and also 9.04 ppc desktop version. Neither worked.
The PS3 version obviously didn't work because I had to install it from a desktop with the hard drive hooked up via SATA. Also, the ppc (not both) version didn't work because for some reason the disc wasn't bootable. I suspect it's because my computer isn't a ppc system.
I was able to get Gparted to set up 3 partitions on it successfully (root, home, and swap).
But other than that, I'm kind of at my wits end. Should I just download and install the 32 or 64bit version of Ubuntu instead? Would it come with any drivers for the ps3 hardware? If not, where would I get the drivers?
Would it be far too much work?

Is it allowed to bump your threads? I forget.

Yes I did. That's where I got the link for Ubuntu 9.10 (which is an odd number) Alternate ppc+ps3 (iso). I then burned it on a disc and tried to install it. But since it's designed for a ps3 install, and that's impossible, I wasn't able to install it with my desktop.
Maybe further clarification is in order. What I need to do is install Ubuntu with my existing computer onto a notebook HD. So as to install into my PS3 and run it. You see, the latest firmware updates make it impossible to install an OtherOS. So I have to do some sort of work around. Like installing it from a desktop with SATA connections.

According to this information (http://psubuntu.com/firmware-update-drops-otheros-support/), Sony dropped the support for Other OS on the PS3, so I doubt you can go around that or else there would have been information on the Web site...

I noticed, but since going around what Sony did is slightly in the grey area of legality. The information I seek is a little hard to come by. There's a website called ps3hacks that looked promising. But I want to do what I need to without buying any new hardware if possible. The way I was reading it was, you buy a usb key that only hacks (jailbreaks) the ps3 while it's plugged in. To restore you merely unplug it.
But like I said, I want to do this as cheaply as possible.

Is no one posting because they don't have any useful input to contribute? Or because they don't want to get involved in something against the rules?
It's not against the rules is it?

What is the exact problem, have you tried 10.10 PPC, that install worked fine for me.
