I cannot get my wireless to work, currently using my Nexus One tethered to my desktop

I have a Sitecom WL-356 usb device. This uses a RTL8192SU chipset.

I have tried, nidswrapper (result, the device is recognized, still not usable/accessible)
i have tried compiling it myself through this "manual" http://samiux.blogspot.com/2010/05/howto-realtek-8192su-usb-dongle.html

i copied the firmware to the correct folder in lib/firmware/RTL8192SU

the current kernel i use is:

2.6.35-23-generic on ubuntu 10.10 64 bits

My nexus one does what it should but still i would like to use my phone for something else than a wlan usb device

thanks in advance
