I thought Ubuntu was less demanding... And after trying 10.10 I thought 10.04 would solve my lagging issues, but my computer still lags, I am assuming that an earlier version of Ubuntu/Kubuntu or whatever will be far less demanding as far as Hardware goes. Yes, I will upgrade my graphix card from PCI ATI Radeon 9250 256mb to PCI-Express Nvidia e-GeForce 8800GT 512mb (may not be a dramatic upgrade, but it's the best I've got). I hear of people having quad cores, 3.0 Ghz or w/e, and 6 or 8 gigs of Ram. I've had my PC for a while now and I'm slowly working on upgrading, I just want my Ubuntu to run as fast (if not faster) than my Windows XP GUI.

Until I am able to upgrade; I want an Ubuntu version that accommodates to my current hardware, where could I get the version previous to 10.04LTS?

Here's what I have:

Dual Intel Core2 1.86Ghz
3Gb DDR3
Single SATA 160 HDD (Ubuntu)
Single SATA 160 HDD (Win XP)
Single SATA 160 HDD (Win XP)
Single SATA 160 HDD (Vacant)
PCI ATI Radeon 9250 256mb [Proprietary Driver is Unavailable]

PS: Could Ubuntu help me finalize my dream of using RAID to my advantage? lol [Even if I have no Floppy driver?] That's why three of those HDDs are WD1600 and one Win XP is a Seagate.

Thanks!

You need a clean install of an older release. And remember, support for most older releases is over. The only supported versions are 8.04 and 9.10 which are scheduled to reach their End of Life in April next year.

I would suggest better go for 10.04 and try to resolve the issues with that version.

Thanks, I'll give those a try, but where can I get the previous version of Ubuntu just in case they don't work?

Thanks, I'm downloading Ubuntu 8.04 and when I've burned the image onto a CD I will try fixing my driver's with the links you have provided, I'm working on many other non-computer projects, so I've been a little busy. but Thanks!

Test Linux Mint 9 or 10 by installing it on a USB stick before downgrading to an older version of Ubuntu. Linux Mint seems to have better driver support than Ubuntu. I had to switch my brother from Ubuntu 10.10 to Mint 9 because of driver issues. Mint ran a charm on his system.

Do some testing with a USB first.

Mint 9 Isadora? Sounds delicious! I'm downloading rite now! But you want me to run from a USB? I prefer installing first always, now I see why USB might be better to try first. =] Thanks Marl!
