Hello, I am almost done with the Desktop download. The indication I see is that it (the ISO image file) must be written to the CD using one of the two suggested programs which also must be downloaded and installed. Then use that program to write to the CD. Is that correct? I want to try the OS first prior to installing. Thanks for any help, best regards.

Sounds right. What program did you download to burn the ubuntu.iso to?

You have to burn the iso to a CD as an image, not as a data file. Some WinXP computers came with a version of Roxio or Sonic that could burn images, and some didn't. If you have WinXP or Vista, there is a free download http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

It sounds like Win7 may already have that capability natively http://www.win7articles.com/burn-iso-images-in-windows-7.html
