:)
Just for everyone's info:
Could lay my hands on some Xeon-quadcore 4 GB RAM HP Z400 workstation.
Used both a kubuntu and ubuntu 10.10 on a thumbdrive (iso), and both booted up properly. Haven't tried everything, but can, on demand, do so, except of an install (as of now).
All hunky dory, except of some ACPI or so, because both workstations (we have 30 here, currently running - cough, cough - W7) locked up after some idle time, with some nondescript moiré on kubuntu, which surely consisted of the kde desktop (colours and stuff), while the gnome desktop could not be taken off some playful display of vertical, thin, coloured lines. Nothing but a hard reboot would end those sessions.
