I am completely new to Ubunto and my school has recently made all of our classroom pc run ubunto, they have retained the windows server and nothing is working.

Is there, anywhere, a simple guide to making ubunto work on a windows network?

Things I need Ubunto to do:-

Allow students to log onto their own work folders from any machine,

Students get a desktop which they are unable to change

E-Mail and Internet Access

Plus many more things that I will remember later.

I am an intelligent bloke who can understand most things, but I cannot find the right guide to understand.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I am using Ubuntu 10.10. When I go to Places I see Network and Connect to Server. When I open Network there is a folder called Windows Network. When I open Connect to Server I find that it is possible to set up a Windows Share. I do not know if this will do what you want. I do not know how to advise you. You may also need to research a program called Samba.

What a User can do or not do can be set from System>Adminstration>Users and Groups but it will have to be done on each machine.

regards.

Thanks for the suggestion, but what I am looking for is a bit more complex than that.

I have found a couple of posts, but what I am looking for is a complete guide to networking Ebunto stations onto a windows network
