So anyway, I'm downloading the same torrent right now on my work computer and my netbook simultaneously. Both Lucid, both Transmission, same router/network.... But my work computer has like 14 total peers, and my netbook only has 8. What the heck? Why might that be?

preferences-> privacy, check "use local peer discovery..."

that should balance it out since your on the same network.

being on the same network, doesn't mean you will get the same connections, you'll get 1 connection per source, torrents only dealing with 1 address & thats the router, the router deals with the computers on the inside.

The number of peers shown by the client is not the total number of people downloading. I am more concerned with speed than number of peers. If you get 8 fast peers on the one machine, then the client has no need to look for more peers than that. 8 fast may be the in some sense equal to 14 slow.
