I just installed 10.10 on my toshiba m55 laptop. its a basic laptop and seems to run the system fine. the process monitor never shows over 90%. However when the video has a lot going on such as a animated web page or the animations of the OS. even changing tabs the display gets choppy. like I see a frame by frame. until it stops. I can keep typing and its still registering whats happening. and I can click things. but pauses can be 3-4 seconds on the video. any ideas on fixing this?

It has a Intel GMA900, which is quite slow chip. Try installing a add removal plugin in firefox, to get rid of the power hungry adds. It should speed up the rest. Also, for youtube and stuff, you can install a plugin that enables you to download videos instead of playing them in firefox. The videos works a lot better in the media player.
