I installed Ubuntu 10 to my laptop which had windows xp already installed. I overwrote the windows install instead of using a different partition. Later I could not get my dual monitors to work so I put my xp restore disk back in and did a restore. (I know it will run my dual monitors with the ati drivers on the restore disk). Anyway after the restore it said to take disk out and hit enter. After I did that I get the message "error filesystem unknown grub rescue>

Could someone tell me how to access this and get rid of it so it will see the windows install? Thanks.

Follow these steps. Should get you up and running.

If you want to continue to test Ubuntu use Wubi to dual boot then you can fiddle and get everything how you want it then use that knowledge to do a destructive install again.

Thanks a boatload. Worked like a charm. I thought that would work, but I didnt have any xp disks to do the repair from, just the restore disk and I couldnt figure how to do the repair. I got one from a site and I am good to go.
