View Full Version : [ubuntu] Upgrade or fresh install?

I currently have a Jaunty and Windows dual-boot setup on my computer. I have stayed with Jaunty because of a bad experience that I had when I tried to upgrade to Karmic. I now have a new printer that will not work with Jaunty, but works fine with a 10.10 boot disc.

So, should I try to upgrade Jaunty, which will save all of my docs, pics, vids, programs, bookmarks, etc... Or should I backup everything that I have flashdrive space for & then do a fresh install? I know that upgrading was NOT recommended for Karmic, but is it reliable for Maverick?

TIA for any advice.

It might be an idea to back everything up anyway!
It would also be an idea to boot from the live cd and "try ubuntu" and see how Maverick runs on your hardware.
Upgrading so many versions at once is likely to be troublesome and very time consuming! I would install fresh - after checking Maverick over first.

Thanks, I'm using the live CD now & it works very well.
