I booted up my computer, and got greeted with a windows 2000 esque GTK theme. a little shade (translucent black box in top right, libnotify?) notification popped up on GDM saying gnome-power-manager wasnt configured, and when I logged on my desktop still looks like this:

as you can see compiz still works, but I cant change the theme.
luckily the problem is purely aesthetics
