Some things are so unreal till you see it live. I have a thinkpad t42 equipped with a mtron mobi 3500 ssd. This machine is able to install ubuntu desktop i386 in only 8 minutes from last input to reboot. 8 minutes are faster than most windows are booting, the laptop do a boot in 25s to login. This is real power, in this case a powerful hardware can play muscles and show the result.
The thinkpad x41 with solidata ssd is a little bit slower.

Anymore install or bootup records here?

Funny. I get around those times without using an SSD.

Was that really necessary?

My laptop (http://linuxexpresso.wordpress.com/hardware#Tecra) boots Slitaz in 19 sec. It can boot Ubuntu in about 27 with an 8Gb CF card.
I wonder how fast Slitaz would boot from the CF card >.<

My main machine (http://linuxexpresso.wordpress.com/hardware#System64) boots a clean Ubuntu 10.04 in about 25 seconds.

Both of these are mono-core Pentium IVs for those who don't follow the links.
