Boot into the live CD.
Open a terminal.
Mount the partition that Ubuntu is installed on.
eg. sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt (If Ubuntu is on sda1)
then reinstall Grub:
sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/ /dev/sda
This will install Grub, when you boot back into Ubuntu you will need to run.. sudo update-grub
That should do it.

I take it your Ubuntu installation is on sda6?
If thats the case then:

sudo mount /dev/sda6 /mnt

sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/ /dev/sda
Then reboot into your Ubuntu system and run:

sudo update-grub
That should do it.

ps. the problem is that you`ve tried installing Grub onto sda6, instead of into the root of sda.
The above commands should work.
