Thanks for the great link. I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 Friday and am just really getting to play with it today. I knew about the Software Center from the friend at work that got me to finally install it, but I did not know about the .deb, .tar.gz, etc.

And how am I liking it so far? Absolutely loving it.

Are you double-clicking .exe files? Asking because Ubuntu will tend to treat those as self-extracting archive files, not executables.

If you ARE, then stop doing that. Those .exe files are most probably Windows installers and they will NOT install in Ubuntu.
