Wasn't supposed LibreOffice to be a fork from OpenOffice?
So why so much difference in the installer package size?(300mb vs 130)?

Browsing around the LibreOffice downloads (http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/testing/3.3.0-beta3/), the only one that I can find that is 300MB is the Windows one. All the Linux and MacOS ones weigh in at about 160-180MB.

Why are you worried about the size of a Windows download on an Ubuntu forum?

Are you comparing the precompiled package on a distribution to the source code?

You're right, I didn't know there was difference in size among the different OS.
Sorry my mistake, I assumed the linux deb and rpm packages were around the same size

Nevertheless, it is intriguing that the Windows package should be as much as 300MB with the all_lang package an enormous 467MB. I downloaded OO 3.2.1 for use in Windows 7 the other day and it was only 141MB.

I'd say it's insulting to say that FSF bundles spywares with the Windows version...

It wouldn't surprise me. GCompris charges for the full Windows version because they want people to use Linux.

That is a lot of spyware. Maybe virus and malware was added in as well.

another possibility is that LO still has all the debug stuff enabled (because its a beta). though its probably to do with which extras (languages, extensions, dependencies etc) are included. or maybe a build script bug that means they include more files than they need.

you should ask on their mailing list or IRC channel.

Clicking on the download link on their page (32-bit deb) prompts for a 164 MB archive download.
Unpacked is 300 MB, but so should be the Windows variant.
