I have Parkard Bell notebook and installed ubuntu netbook edition 10.04 yesterday. The installation seemed to have completed ok but couldn't find any menu panel. The desktop background comes up but not a single thing on it. So I started clicking round. On the lefthandside all the menus are there but hidden. If the top two thirds is clicked a rectangular white box might appear franked by black. If the left edge of such box is clicked then the menu pops up. By trial an error I am able to use some of the usual like - Applications, Places, System etc. But its a pain to have to do that. Anybody experienced something like this and solved it?

Sorry, I don't know how to fix your problem.
However, we might be able to identify the issue...

1. Your install could be corrupted (boot from the CD and use the check install media option)

2. If your installation media (CD-ROM) checks out try running from the CD without installing...
